Valley High School 1987

The Class of 1987 is Keeping In Touch

One day a while back my youngest son, Brock and I were having a conversation and I told him about something that happened once (I can no longer remember what it was!LOL). He looked at me and asked, very seriously I might add, "Was that back in the old days, like the '80's Mom?" Taken aback, I laughed at him, and told him that the '80's weren't the "old days". Or were they? Remember when our parents talked about the '60's and we thought the same thing? I ran into Rhonda "Scott" Feist in, where else, Wal-Mart last night. We had a nice chat in the middle of the pet supply aisle for about 20 minutes. She took my wedding pictures, and always reminds me that mine was the first wedding she photographed. (She uses my wedding as her successful marriage, blah, blah, story!) By the way, she is doing well, and still teaching at Magnolia. The funny thing is, I got to thinking on this later, and I think she looks younger than me now! (I'm blaming that on the kids!) Well I'll get to the point. The reunion, alumni weekend, Brock's question, and seeing her have really got me to reminiscing. So I'll share some of my fond remembrances with you all. Remember when: 30 was old, OUCH! Hanging out the windows on nice, or not so nice, days at VHS. Smokin' in the girls room. When we HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PLAY OUTSIDE ON NICE DAYS. Atari, Pacman, and Asteroids. Mork and Mindy. (We had to make up a skit at Shortline, I don't remember the grade, and I was Mork and Missy McDiffit was Mindy!) Mr. Groves office, and bugging him to go "over town" at lunch. Mr. Moscary and McDonalds, he loved those cookies!! When hot lunch was good!! Oh how I'd love to have some of Vandilla and Garnet's homemade pizza, those little peanut butter dessert bars, and yes, pig in a blanket (for all those who remember them as cooks at Smithfield in the days before we consolidated)! Snowball fights at VHS when we changed classes. Play practice. Band Camp. Pep Rallies. Dances. Oh, the Possum Queen and King at the Sadie Hawkins dance! Homecoming week, and building the floats;all that chicken wire and tissue! Bell's Market. The Pizza Palace. Works Drive Inn. The Pipe Yards (come on, admit it, you know cause you've been there!!LOL) Football games, basketball games. Teachers: Mr. Meredith, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd, Mrs. White, Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Fraley, Mrs. Heflin, where are they now? Yearbook and school paper. Crushes, Puppy love, and the feeling that it was real. Breaking Up, it was hard to do! And last but not least; The feeling that what you were doing then was soooo important, that those years would last forever, and that 20 years was a long time away!! Hey feel free to add your own memories, good or bad. I could have added a lot more, but I didn't want to spoil it for you guys, and I didn't want to make it sad by adding my bad memories! (Not all those days were pleasant!)
